I recently just updated my RAM to 8GB and plan on installing a 250GB solid state drive to speed up this machine. What better way to top it off with a new and robust OS! MAC OS X Lion will have over 250 new additional updates and functionalities, making it one of the most advanced operating systems in the world. Now if you want to learn in detail about the 250 additions, well you can click here. Today, I will be focusing on a new function that has leaked from a Developer Preview. This function literally allows you to “find your mac,” (also used in iOS devices). Why would you need to find you mac? Well, in case you lost it or if someone stole it.

Now this specifically came from the 4th Developer Preview. Now the image below appears to be accessed through system preferences; this feature will allow the user/owner the ability to “find my mac” by locking the screen, but allowing guest access to Safari (only), thus helping recovery of the machine.


Instantly with your iPhone/iPod app, a user can enable it sound an alert or send a message to the person who has found you computer (or that dirty crook who stole it) and guess what…you can now remotely lock the machine. Even wipe the machine so your personal data is safe.

Once the action has been put in place, what the person who has your computer sees is a plain screen that locks the machine. The machine will not be fully unlocked without your own passcode. Cool eh?

Now with this in place and the combination of iCould, your content is safe. With your content being saved in the interwebs, even when you have lost your data, you data isn’t really lost. You can expect to see Mac OS X Lion roll out to the public around July of 2011 at a price of $29.99

Australian security outfit Pure Hacking says it’s discovered a zero-day bug in Skype that allows hackers to gain control of Mac OS X machines by sending an instant message.
Gordon Maddern says he discovered the bug quite by accident, after mistakenly sending a payload for one of his clients to a colleague via Skype.

“I decided to investigate a little further and found that the Windows and Linux clients were not vulnerable. It was only the Mac Skype client that seemed to be affected,” he says.

“So I decided to test another Mac and sent the payload to my girlfriend. She wasn’t too happy with me as it also left the her Skype unusable for several days.”

Maddern put together a proof of concept using metasploit and meterpreter as a payload, and found he was able to gain a shell remotely.

“The long and the short of it is that an attacker needs only to send a victim a message and they can gain remote control of the victim’s Mac. It is extremely wormable and dangerous,” he says.
