The Rad Project: My work x The Design Institute x UCSD The Village

I guess this was the ice breaker for The Rad Project – my creative projects usually involving a collaboration of some sort – and I think it went well. Earlier this month, I was working on a project with a handful of Interior Designers from The Design Institute and the University of California San Diego The Village. There were separate rooms from the first ever Transfer Dorms on UCSD, each group having their own theme. Their job – staying within budget – was to create a vision of the theme, and thus having an opening reception to show their fruitful creations. There was a lot of creative and crafty designers, a lot of McGuyver furniture and superb color stories running throughout.

My group, #5 focused on a more urban aesthetic and feel. There was a keen juxtaposition of metal and organic material hosted within the dorm room/apartment. My part was the art creation of 20 canvases to give the place a more street authenticity. The main piece was 6 canvases combined to form one painting. I think the room was successful to convey the feeling. Thank you Lily Robinson (Architect/ASID/IDEC) and her students: Kristin Goransson, Jessica Espinosa, Laura Mcbride, Syllis and Nicole.

Without writing a long story, I’ll let the pictures do the talking…and please don’t make fun of my photography skills. That’s mean.
